The Author

Interestingly, my career in IT started as a detour.

My extensive career has since seen me excel in application development, internet working, information security, risk management, and strategic security leadership.

I’ve had the privilege of serving both governmental and private sector clients, holding numerous key positions, including Board Director for private corporations and a non-profit organization over the past 35 years. I have also provided services to the Royal Bank of Scotland, have been asked to quote work to the Pentagon and  with a master’s degree in leadership and organizational change from Royal Roads University and multiple certifications in networking, security, and risk, I have consistently demonstrated my commitment to advancing cybersecurity practices. Notably, I authored a Risk-based Information Security Approach (RISA) and the National Cybersecurity Assessment Report on the state of cybersecurity in Canadian Higher Education. I also completed Harvard’s Cyber Risk Management program at the top of my cohort.

Beyond my professional pursuits, I am dedicated to humanitarian efforts, having led multiple teams on aid missions to Central America. I’m also a passionate advocate for continuous learning and have contributed to numerous industry panels and conferences. I reside in Edmonton, Alberta, with my spouse. We’ve been happily married for 35 years and have three grown sons, all married and thriving in their own careers, and two incredible grandchildren.

I believe the book is well positioned to be a thought-leader and practical guide for organizations looking to establish a solid security posture. I love how the book transcends the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, and is applicable to companies in Canada, the US, and internationally. Highly recommended and worth every penny!
